ANNUAL FLOWER SHOW
Saturday 2nd August 2025
The many visitors to the Annual Flower Show judged this year’s to be one of the best. In spite of the drought, scorching heat and torrential rain the flowers, fruit and vegetables looked wonderful.
The Home Produce classes were very well supported. The fine selection of scones, Victoria sandwiches and cakes tempted folk to enjoy tea and cake both inside and outside on the Village Green.
The standard of the handicrafts and artwork was very high the photographs in the category ‘Oh Dear!’ were amusing.
It was encouraging to see juniors from 5 to 15 showing baking skills – perhaps the chefs of tomorrow.
Altogether a colourful and successful afternoon.
In the Vegetables & Fruit and Flower classes overall, Mike Kingsford gained half the first prizes and won all the horticultural trophies.
His results were the more dominant as the other first prizes in these classes were spread between 12 other contestants.
Beryl Starkey won the King-Jones Cup for the most points in the Flower Arrangements.
The Olga Baldwin Cup for the best Flower Arrangement exhibit was awarded to Cynthia Blades.
The 16 Home Produce first prizes were spread over 9 entrants, but overall Christine Hounsome emerged as the clear winner of this section.
In the Handicrafts section so many of the exhibits impressed with their beauty and craftmanship. The 8 first prizes were all won by different exhibitors.
